Study Visit is a regular annual activity of the ULM Faculty of Engineering which has been held since 2013. The aim of this activity is to provide an overview of the engineering industry to student activists from campus organizations. The hope is that campus activists will not only be strong in the organizational field, but also competent in the technical field. And as potential future leaders, FT students must be able to synergize with various expertise from various disciplinary backgrounds. This is the reason why, since the beginning of this program, it has almost always been carried out in engineering-based companies that require multi-disciplinary knowledge, namely the mining industry (especially PKP2B which applies Good Mining Practices) and electricity generation. Several industries that have been visited include PT. Adaro Indonesia (2013 and 2014), PLTA Riam Kanan (2015), PT. Jorong Barutama Greston (2016), PLTU Asam-asam (2017) and this year it was carried out at PT Borneo Indobara. This visit was supposed to be held at the end of 2018. However, due to the odd semester 2018/2019, the implementation of the Final Semester Examination was 'advanced' than usual, the activity which was initially approved by the company on December 26 2018 was postponed to January 13 2019.
PT. Borneo Indobara is a company operating in the mining sector, a subsidiary of Sinar Mas which is located in Angsana District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan. PT. BIB began actively carrying out exploration and infrastructure development stages in 2006 and began carrying out coal exploration stages in 2008 with the Coal Entrepreneur Work Agreement (PKP2B) area with a concession area of 24,100 Ha which is divided into 4 mining blocks, namely the Batulaki block, the Lower Sebamban block (Bunati ), the Upper Sebamban (Kusan) block, and the Girimulya block. Of these four blocks, only the Girimulya Block has not yet entered the exploitation stage. In production operations, there are several contractors who collaborate with PT. Borneo Indobara, namely PT. Sapta Indra Sejati (PT. SIS), PT. Wira Bhumi Sejati (PT. WBS), and PT. Bangun Arta Hutama (PT. BAMA), with a coal production target of 20,000,000 tons per year.
The visit of the activist students who were accompanied by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni of FT ULM began at the office location which is located on Provincial Road KM 180, Angsana Village, Angsana District, Tanah Bumbu Regency. After receiving direct instructions from Mr. Riadi Simka as Head of Mining Engineering (KTT), and continued with a safety induction. Participants then departed for the coal mining area (Pit Kusan). Participants received various explanations about the ins and outs of the world of mining from personnel who are very competent in their fields. After being in the pit for quite some time, the visit then moved on to the reclamation area. Various questions submitted by the participants were answered very satisfactorily by the companions. The nursery area also does not escape visits. The enthusiasm of the FT ULM students during the visit was very high, so it didn't feel like this full day visit had to end, and the participants had to return to the office. Upon arrival at the PT BIB office, visiting participants were again welcomed by the PT BIB Summit to carry out a closing ceremony. The KTT conveyed a lot of advice, suggestions and motivation to students who took part in this activity. Apart from that, the PT BIB Summit also conveyed the company's commitment in various fields, especially environmental management and monitoring, as well as human resource development/education on Kalimantan Island, especially South Kalimantan Province. On this occasion, the PT BIB Summit will always provide the widest possible opportunity for FT ULM students to carry out practical work, internships, final assignment research at this company. It is hoped that study visits by student organization activists can continue to be carried out targeting increasingly diverse industries, such as the cement industry, palm oil and CPO plantations, etc. (nhk).
