Banjarbaru, August 15, 2024. The introduction of new students is an important moment in one's academic life. This year, 2024, new students of the Faculty of Engineering, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) have an extraordinary opportunity to be directly involved in the implementation of a green campus during the Introduction to Campus Life Program for New Students (PKKMB).

In the implementation of PKKMB FT ULM, there is a new policy conveyed by the Dean of FT ULM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Iphan Fitrian Radam, ST, MT, IPU that starting this year, the provision of lunch consumption for new students and all committees and even Faculty officials will no longer be in the form of rice with disposable packaging, but will be distributed directly using plates or other cutlery that can be reused. This policy was taken with the aim of reducing the volume of waste, especially plastic. This policy certainly requires cooperation from various parties, including the PKKMB committee. The committee is expected to be able to organize the food distribution system properly so that lunch activities continue to run smoothly.

The lunch menu prepared by the committee is a balanced menu to meet nutritional needs and maintain body health. The PKKMB FT ULM implementers ensure that lunch is not only delicious but also clean, healthy, fresher and maintains its quality.

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) has demonstrated its commitment to the green campus concept by encouraging new students to bring personal tumblers during the PKKMB activities since 5 (five) years ago. The Faculty of Engineering provides refillable water facilities during the PKKMB implementation. Tumblers used by PKKMB participants can reduce the consumption of disposable plastic bottles that are usually used for drinking water, as well as reduce plastic waste produced during the event. It is hoped that this will encourage positive habits to always use tumblers not only during the PKKMB implementation.

Through this action, it is expected that new students will not only enjoy the campus introduction process, but also apply the principles of environmental care that they will carry throughout their academic and life journey. These real actions are the efforts of the ULM Faculty of Engineering in creating a green campus environment, a campus with minimal waste, cleaner and more comfortable.
