The Geological Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held an activity to hand over hybrid dendrobium orchids and plant a new type of local orchid species from the Meratus Geopark named 'DENDROBIUM GEOLOGY FT ULM SOUTH BORNEO' at the Engineering Techno Park (ETP), Faculty of Engineering, ULM Banjarbaru.
'DENDROBIUM GEOLOGY FT ULM SOUTH BORNEO' was internationally patented at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) London by a student of the Geological Engineering Study Program, FT ULM, Philip Recardo Sugiwan (NIM. 2310818310010) and made the Geological Engineering Study Program, FT ULM the first study program to have an orchid name in Kalimantan that has been internationally patented.
Dean of FT ULM Prof. Dr. Ir. Iphan Fitrian Radam, ST., MT., IPU. said in his speech that "Orchid is one of Indonesia's endemic plants that has a lot of diversity and is widely distributed in the Meratus Geopark, South Kalimantan. We from the Faculty of Engineering ULM strongly support the development and conservation of orchids to preserve the orchids of the Geopark.
The Faculty of Engineering ULM with assistance from the Indonesian Orchid Lovers Council (PAI) of South Kalimantan involved students and lecturers to develop local orchid species in the FT ULM environment and the Meratus Geopark. On that occasion, the Chairperson of the PAI South Kalimantan Council handed over the hybrid dendrobium orchid. "The hybrid dendrobium orchid named 'DENDROBIUM GEOLOGI FT ULM SOUTH BORNEO' is a new type of dendrobium orchid," said the Chairperson of the PAI South Kalimantan DPD, Arinda Dian Susanti. Also attending the event were the Secretary of the Geological Engineering Study Program Rudy Hendrawan Noor, ST, MT, lecturer Arica Nefia, ST, MT and students of the Geological Engineering Study Program FT ULM.
The Dean of FT ULM and the Chairperson of the DPD PAI KALSEL along with members, hope that this event will be an encouragement for geological engineering students to preserve and also care for local orchid species of the Meratus Geopark which is one of Indonesia's flower flowers. We hope that not only the geological engineering study program but also for the entire Lambung Mangkurat University will become the first orchid campus on the island of Kalimantan.
