After the APAR cylinder is used to extinguish a fire, the cylinder must be refilled. This needs to be done regardless of whether the cylinder is empty or not. Using APAR to extinguish a fire will reduce the pressure in the cylinder needed for maximum operation. To prevent this, immediately refill the existing APAR cylinder. In addition, it is important to understand that each extinguishing medium has its own expiration date. Information regarding this expiration date is listed on the label on each cylinder.
As is known, on Wednesday (24/10) several APAR owned by FT ULM were used in handling small fires in the ETP area, and as an effort by FT ULM which is always concerned about K3L in the FT ULM environment, the APAR used in the incident was immediately refilled so that it could be reused. In addition, several APARs that had expired and needed repair were also serviced and refilled to maintain their reliability when needed.
