Study Excursion is an activity carried out by the Mechanical Engineering Study Program with the aim of providing an introduction to the industrial world before entering the Practical Work Program for Students. Participants who took part in this activity were 43 active ULM Mechanical Engineering students class of 2019 who were accompanied by Akhmad Syarief, ST, MT and Pathur Razi Ansyah, ST, M.Eng. This activity has the theme "Perpetuating the Study Excursie experience in increasing learning motivation and strengthening family relationships to produce quality human resources in the industrial world 4.0".

The Study Excursie will last for 5 days on 23 – 27 January 2021 in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. This activity is scheduled to visit companies and universities, namely: PT. Pertamina International RU V Balikpapan Refinery, PDAM Tirta Manuntung, Kalimantan Institute of Technology, and Balikpapan State Polytechnic. PT. Pertamina International RU V Balikpapan Refinery welcomed this visit and provided material about oil and gas production and business processes from the Company. Apart from that, participants were introduced to the first well in Balikpapan, namely the Mathilda Well. Next, participants visited PDAM Tirta Manuntung and visited the Manggar KM 12 Reservoir along with water treatment that was distributed to the community. Participants were introduced to pumps, piping system, motors, and other supporting components. A visit to the Kalimantan Institute of Technology and Balikpapan State Polytechnic was the time sharing information about education, innovation, independent activities, research, community service between students and supervisors. This also strengthens the bonds of the Indonesian Mechanical Engineering Association Student Organization for students.

Both companies and destination universities really welcomed this activity. It is hoped that this activity will become a gateway for collaboration between industry and universities and between universities. This is in line with the objectives of implementing MBKM within the ULM Faculty of Engineering. The more doors to collaboration, the more insight it will open.
